This day is timed to the rhythms of the wild. There is no need to rush back to town for dinner. Instead, stay to witness the park’s famous alpenglow as the sun sets — the most productive wildlife hour of the day. Scout for grizzly bears, wolves, elk, and bison while your guide handles every mile of driving and every detail of logistics, including the off-the-beaten-path stops most visitors never find. We had such a memorable time with Great Western Expeditions! Maximizing Yellowstone was a top priority and we left fully satisfied. Natalie, our guide, was filled with vast knowledge and an uncanny skill for routing us to maximize wildlife. We were fortunate to see 3 bears, countless bison, a moose and even a gray wolf. The van was on time and so comfortable — we were a group of 5 but it could have easily fit 8-10. The windows were large, the high-roof van was spotless.

We highly recommend an early start to beat the crowds! As we head north, we may pause for a morning photo-op at an iconic Grand Teton National Park viewpoint to catch the early light hitting the peaks.

Welcome to Yellowstone (The South Gate)
Watch the landscape shift as we officially enter the Yellowstone caldera.
Old Faithful & The Upper Geyser Basin (2-Hour Immersive Stop)
Witness the roaring eruption of the world’s most famous geyser! We will use this generous two-hour window to explore the bubbling thermal features along the boardwalks, visit the historic Old Faithful Inn, and browse the local gift shops. A delicious picnic lunch will be served during this stop.
Fountain Paint Pots Geothermal Boardwalk
We’ll take a leisurely, 30-minute boardwalk stroll to get an up-close look at the earth alive. This unique pocket contains all four distinct types of geothermal features: geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles.
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone & Lower Falls
Prepare to be awestruck. We will take a short, scenic walk to the Brink of the Upper Falls to peer over the edge and capture incredible views of the roaring, 308-foot Lower Falls plunging into the canyon walls.
Wildlife in Hayden Valley
We’ll wind our way through one of the most famous wildlife corridors in the world. Keep your eyes peeled and your binoculars ready—this valley boasts vast mountain views and is prime territory for bison herds, elk, and bears.
Lakeside Charms at the Historic Lake Hotel
Enjoy a tranquil stop along the sweeping shores of Yellowstone Lake.
Grand Teton Farewell Frame
As we make our way back down the mountain, we will stop at a second scenic overlook in Grand Teton National Park to capture the mountains in the golden evening light.
Wilderness Realities & Notes:
Spontaneous Wildlife Encounters: Time for unplanned wildlife viewing is generally accounted for throughout our route!
We always let the animals dictate the flow of our day.
The Unpredictable Wild: Please keep in mind that park traffic, “bison jams,” or construction delays are unpredictable and may shift our timing slightly on the fly.
Comfort Stops: Restrooms are readily available roughly every 30 minutes throughout this entire route.

How long is the Yellowstone tour?
The full day runs 11–13 hours depending on wildlife activity, road conditions, and how long your group wants to linger at a sighting. We depart at 6am and most guests are back at their lodging between 6–8pm.
What is the difference between the Lunch and Dinner tour?
Both cover the same route and all the major highlights. The Dinner tour stays in the park longer into the evening — which means the park’s famous alpenglow, quieter roads, and wildlife activity picking back up as the day cools. The dinner itself is a proper outdoor safari meal served in the field rather than a midday picnic. Most guests who have the flexibility choose the Signature Dinner tour. If you have an early commitment the following morning, the Classic Lunch tour returns slightly earlier. Select your preference directly above when booking.

Yes — and Yellowstone might be the single greatest national park on earth for capturing a child’s imagination.
