Our private, multi-day expeditions through Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are packed with high-energy awe. We spend five to seven days tracking grizzly families through Lamar Valley, taking shuttle boats across glacial lakes, and watching geysers erupt against a classic Wyoming sky. It is exhilarating, active, and unmatched. But when you spend a week deeply immersed in the rugged momentum of the national parks, the absolute best way to finish your vacation isn’t by rushing straight back to an airport gate.
The ultimate luxury? Decompressing at an authentic, boutique guest ranch where the pace slows to a crawl, the crowds vanish completely, and your family can truly process the magic of the West.
That is why we love designing our multi-day itineraries to culminate at the breathtaking
3 Spear Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming. Located just 90 minutes east of Jackson over the spectacular Togwotee Pass, this hidden gem is the perfect, unhurried grand finale to your private tour.
Here is exactly why a stay at 3 Spear Ranch completes the ultimate Wyoming experience, along with how we seamlessly handle the transition for you:
The Logistics: A Seamless 24-Hour Escape
We have designed the transition from the national parks to the ranch to be completely effortless for your group:
Day 4 or 6 (4:00 PM Drop-Off):
After a final morning of exploring the parks, your Great Western Expeditions guide will drive you over the pass and roll down the winding dirt road of 3 Spear Ranch, dropping your group off around 4:00 PM. This gives you the perfect pocket of late afternoon time to settle into your cabins, unpack, and explore the grounds before a spectacular, gourmet ranch dinner at The Lodge that evening.
The Next Day (12:00 PM Pick-Up):
You get to enjoy a slow, unhurried morning on the ranch—sleep in, enjoy a hearty breakfast, or take a dip in the warm springs. Right around noon, your guide will arrive back at the ranch to pick you up.
The High-Scenic Return:
On the drive back, we’ll wind our way back through the jaw-dropping Togwotee Pass and Grand Teton National Park, giving you one last chance to spot wildlife against the jagged peaks. By late afternoon, we will drop you off right at your downtown hotel for your pre-departure night in Jackson, leaving you plenty of time to shop the Town Square and rest up before your flight home the next day.

Why We Love 3 Spear Ranch
1. True Solitude in the Wind River Valley
While the national parks are magnificent, they are also bustling corners of the world. Crossing over the pass into Dubois feels like stepping into a secret pocket of old-school Wyoming. 3 Spear Ranch sits on 1,200 completely private, historic acres tucked right at the mouth of a rugged canyon, boasting endless views of the Wind River Valley and the dramatic Absaroka Mountains. With only eight exclusive guest cabins on the entire property, you swap the buzz of park traffic for absolute, pristine silence.
2. Soak in Natural, Healing Warm Springs
Northwest Wyoming is world-famous for its geothermal activity, but while you can only look at the hot springs in Yellowstone, 3 Spear Ranch gives you private, 24-hour access to their completely natural, on-site warm springs. Reaching temperatures around 85 degrees, these mineral-rich waters are surrounded by lush wild watercress and framed by the canyon walls. There is nothing more therapeutic than sinking into the warm springs to soothe your hiking muscles while watching the stars blanketing the dark Wyoming sky.
3. Authentic, Unhurried Ranch Adventures
At 3 Spear, your daily itinerary is fully customized for your group, meaning you don’t have to think about a single logisitic.
• Sunset Horseback Riding: Ride directly from the homestead up into the steep mountains and red rock mesas of the Shoshone National Forest as the sky turns brilliant shades of amber and pink.
• Fishing: Slow down to the rhythm of the water on the ranch’s private lakes and streams, which are teeming with native Wyoming rainbow trout—perfect for experienced anglers and kids casting a line for the first time.
• Wilderness Hiking: Explore empty trails climbing right out of your cabin’s backyard without seeing another soul.
4. Modern Luxury Meets “Old West” Nostalgia
The accommodations beautifully bridge upscale comfort with historic character. The hand-hewn, historic log cabins feature premium down bedding, separate sitting areas, and thoughtful luxury touches (like deep clawfoot bathtubs angled perfectly toward the badlands and mountain peaks). When the sun goes down, everyone gathers at The Lodge, the ranch’s top-of-the-line restaurant with a view. Here, a private chef prepares exceptional, gourmet ranch cuisine and craft cocktails. After dinner, the night wraps up the traditional way: sharing stories and laughing with your family around a roaring outdoor bonfire beneath a canopy of stars.
