In the high country of the American West, local isn’t just a zip code – it’s a set of values. It’s a commitment to stewardship, a deep-seated knowledge of the migration corridors, and a belief that the best way to see the wilderness is through the eyes of those who call it home.
At Great Western Expeditions (GWE), that local heart belongs to the Caesar family (from left to right: Joey, Rob, Stacey, Robbie).
A Journey Thirty-Eight Years in the Making
Rob and Stacey Caesar didn’t just start a tour company; they built a life in the shadow of the Tetons. Their journey began in 1983 with the founding of Mountain Resort Chauffeured Transportation, where they spent decades perfecting the art of white-glove logistics. But while the backbone of Great Western Expeditions is built on professional excellence, the heart of the company is fueled by the Caesars’ personal passions.
Stacey is the culinary mastermind behind every GWE journey. While most tour companies outsource their food to local delis, Stacey hand-crafts the menus for our day and multi-day expeditions. From the savory mountain charcuterie to the premier grazing platters, her touch is on every plate.
Rob is the company’s resident storyteller and historian. A man truly fascinated by the “Wyoming Beyond,” Rob’s passion lies in the layers of history that define the American West. Whether he’s tracing the ancestral paths of Indigenous peoples or recounting the rugged lore of the mountain men, Rob’s curiosity is infectious. He is particularly known for his love of the Oregon Trail; for Rob, there is no greater honor than serving a refined dinner on the very ground where pioneers once stood, bridging the gap between the wild past and our luxurious present.
For the Caesars, local means four decades of raising a family here and building lasting partnerships with the ranchers and artisans of the West. When you step into a GWE vehicle, you aren’t just seeing the park; you are experiencing the home that Rob and Stacey have curated for you.

The Next Generation: Joey Caesar
A legacy is only as strong as the hands that carry it forward. Today, the Caesars’ son, Joey, is the driving force behind the daily pulse of Great Western Expeditions. Having grown up in the heart of this ecosystem, Joey didn’t just study the Tetons; he lived them. He traded textbooks for binoculars and trail maps, developing an instinct for the landscape that can only be earned through a lifetime of scouting.
To ensure the GWE Edge remains sharp, Joey remains deeply involved in every facet of the guest experience:
Head of Operations: He orchestrates the complex logistics that make a multi-day journey feel effortless, ensuring every detail is executed with precision.
Elite Naturalist Guide: As a lead guide, Joey shares his deep-rooted knowledge of the Big 13 and the secret, unmapped corners of the parks that only a local truly knows.
Lead Driver: Whether he is managing the fleet or behind the wheel, Joey ensures that the transit between icons is as safe, comfortable, and refined as a private lounge.
Joey’s hands-on involvement means that when you book a Family Legacy Expedition, you aren’t just getting a tour; you are benefiting from the lived experience of someone who calls this wilderness home

“We wanted to create a company that felt personal. Our goal is to treat every guest like a member of the family, providing the kind of insider access that only comes from nearly four decades of living and working in these valleys.”
